Wandering across the Landscape: Collection of the Macao Museum of Art

The Macao Museum of Art, established in 1999, inherited the entire collection of the former Luis de Camões Museum and has been promoting fine arts in Macao to the public through the museum’s efforts over years in acquiring, preserving and studying artworks as well as organising different thematic exhibitions to display to the public every year. By presenting foreign artists’ works created in various media, this exhibition entitled ‘Wandering across the Landscape’ showcases the city’s historical landscapes between the 17th and the 21st centuries and gives an overview of Macao-themed artistic creations in the modern and contemporary era.

This exhibition comprises three sections: ‘Topographical Images: Prints from the 17th to the 19th Centuries’, ‘Chinnery’s Shadow: The Artist, His Companions and Students’ and ‘Traces of Modern Art: Works from the 20th to the 21st Centuries’. The exhibition brings together the artistic footprints left in Macao by artists from different regions, from paintings made by painters of Western diplomatic corps and travelling artists in earlier times to oil paintings, ink paintings, prints, sculptures and video installations produced by foreign artists in the 21st century with a modernist or contemporary touch.
